In a recent report, The Daily Mail claimed that Newcastle United are set to make another offer for Watford forward Joao Pedro this summer. It has been mentioned that the Magpies could go back in with another bid to land the Brazilian striker during this summer transfer window.
Pedro’s Impressive Rise At Vicarage Road
Pedro has come through the youth ranks of Fluminense before going on to join the Hornets at a young age. The Brazilian talent has a decent goal-scoring record at Vicarage Road as he has scored 14 goals and grabbed five assists in 78 matches for Watford so far.
The 20-year-old deserves a lot of credit for averaging 1.7 shots, 0.7 key passes and 2.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he was a bit sloppy with his ball distribution after making only 69.9% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Pedro’s current deal with the Hornets is set to end in the summer of 2025, so it will be difficult for Newcastle to acquire his services on a cut-price deal this summer.
Is Pedro A Good Option For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Pedro is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some clever runs with the ball in the final third. The Brazilian forward can be a prolific goal-scorer when he is playing well on the field. He has also got the eye to play a decisive pass in the attacking end of the field and works hard to help his teammates out defensively when needed.
The promising attacker mainly functions as a centre-forward but can even fill in as a left-sided wide player if his manager tells him to do so. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play up top.
Pedro has already begun to show flashes of what he is capable of at Vicarage Road. Therefore, the Magpies will do well to snap him up during this summer transfer window.
We can expect the Watford prospect to bring more goals to Eddie Howe‘s frontline and serve as a decent back-up to Callum Wilson at St. James’ Park. Hence, Pedro would be a decent option for the Tyneside outfit to consider this month as he will bolster their attack for the long run. However, the youngster is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to settle into life in Premier League football.
