West Ham United’s travails this season have been second to none this season, well maybe if you are a Leicester fan, you won’t agree. But the ambition the Hammers had at the beginning of the season has bitten the dust. They were knocked out of the Europa League in the qualification stage and their new stadium which was symbolic to the club taking the next big step has not been well received (to put it mildly). While it is still symbolic, it has become a symbol of what the team is going through right now.
Down in the dumps, they have been revitalised in the last couple of weeks as the slice of luck and fortune has finally come their way. In the last 3 games, they have collected 7 points and it is something which has probably saved Slaven Bilic’s position as the manager.
West Ham United have had to deal with injuries and a travesty of sorts with the situation regarding their striking options. The Hammers were bent on signing a world-class forward and had the funds to do so. But the lack of European football dissuaded their primary targets from signing with the East London club. And in the attempt and determination to secure a big name player to add to Dimitri Payet, they overlooked some other important areas of the team.
With most of the window over, they had to do with the £20m signing of Andre Ayew. The fact that he got injured on the very first day of the season is a different matter altogether.
West Ham United have been unlucky twice already with their signings with Juventus player Simone Zaza proving to be an absolute failure. The same can be said about Jonathan Calleri who has also returned to Argentina after failing to impress.
And if latest reports are to be believed, West Ham United have been offered Argentine striker Lucas Pratto. West Ham have scouted the South America extensively and have good contacts but were left disappointed by recent loan signing Jonathan Calleri who has returned to Argentina.
The 28-year old striker has loads of experience and he was the one who replaced Gonzalo Higuain in Argentina’s squad earlier in the season.
He has played in Europe but his record of 3 goals in 17 appearances back in 2011/12 are not the most flattering. But in his stint at Atletico Mineiro he has been much more prolific and has 41 goals in 101 appearances.
But after their recent experiences with Calleri and Zaza, the board might be sceptical of going for another overseas player who will always come with a degree of uncertainty. However, we at The 4th Official believe that te 3rd time is a charm and Bilic should actually make this deal happen.
