A former serviceman Robert McNamara has been sentenced to two years and eight months for attempting to intrude and burgle Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney’s mansion.
Robert McNamara admitted the charges that he tried to sneak into Rooney’s house. Rooney was playing his testimonial match that time with Everton while his wife Coleen was in the stands with his three children Kai, Klay and Kit. An alarm bell was triggered and police later found a rucksack, a torch and a balaclava.
Police arrested McNamara six days later and when they searched his home, they recovered a second rucksack containing a ski mask with black tape over it, which the court heard could have been used as a blindfold.
Coleen Rooney said, “After it happened it caused sleepless nights, worrying and watching security cameras fearing someone was there.
“I feared for my children playing outside in the garden and still do.”
