In a recent report, Manchester Evening News mentioned that Manchester City are being linked with PSG star Marco Verratti. It is understood that Bernardo Silva’s future at the club hangs in balance as Barcelona prepare themselves for a sensational bid. On the contrary, PSG are being linked with Frenkie De Jong which could trigger City to move for the Italian maestro.
Verratti’s Impressive Run Of Form For PSG Last Season
Verratti has been a consistent performer for PSG in the past few years and has even enjoyed a solid campaign last season as he scored 2 goals and created 2 assists over 29 appearances across multiple competitions.
The Veteran midfielder has produced some impressive displays in the holding positions of the midfield area after averaging 1.9 dribbles, 1.3 key passes, 2.5 tackles and 0.8 interceptions per game in Ligue 1. He was outstanding with his ball distribution after completing 91.6% of his attempted passes in the French top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Guardiola Bring Him To Manchester City?
Verratti is a deep-lying midfielder who has the ability to time his tackles and can make some clever interceptions to win the ball back for his side. He makes up for his short height by being a tenacious tackler of the ball and an out-front hustler to win back possession at any cost. The Italy international does not succumb to pressure and can get out of tight situations with ease as he excels at holding on to the ball.
The 29-year-old has shown that he has a high calibre and would adapt to Guardiola’s playstyle without any struggle. Furthermore, the Italian midfielder is a decent replacement for Bernardo Silva and would do his job pretty well.
If Silva decides to exit the Etihad Stadium, the Sky Blues would definitely require midfield reinforcements and a player of such class would be the right fit for the Mancunian giants. Pep Guardiola should do well to make a bid considering Silva’s departure from Etihad would bring in sufficient funds to make a decent offer to the French giants.
