Everton welcomed Chelsea at Goodison Park earlier this evening as they looked to grind out a positive result at home. The Toffees kept a solid shape in the first half but conceded a penalty in the first half injury-time which Jorginho converted to put Chelsea 1-0 up on the scoreline.
The Merseyside club were lackluster in the second half and ended up crashing to a narrow 1-0 defeat in front of their home supporters.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the match against the Blues.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 6.5/10
The English goalie made a few crucial saves at the back but will be disappointed for conceding just before the half-time break.
RB: Nathan Patterson – 6/10
He tried his best to keep things solid at the back and made one good run down the right flank.
CB: James Tarkowski – 7/10
Tarkowski defended his penalty box well and won’t be happy after conceding so late in the first half. Despite the loss, it was an impressive debut for him today.
CB: Yerry Mina – 7/10
He put his foot through the ball when needed but could last only 69 minutes.
CB: Ben Godfrey – 6/10
Godfrey had to be substituted early in the game because of injury.
LB: Vitaliy Mykolenko – 6.5/10
He gave a good account of himself on the defensive third of the pitch and made one key chance in the Chelsea half.
RM: Demarai Gray – 6/10
Gray was always willing to run in behind the Chelsea backline but lacked quality in the final third.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 5/10
He got stuck in with some solid tackles but gave away a cheap penalty in the first half injury-time.
CM: Alex Iwobi – 6.5/10
Iwobi worked hard defensively and engineered a couple of decent chances for others around him.
LM: Dwight McNeil – 7/10
He made a few encouraging runs with the ball but lacked the cutting edge in front of the opponent’s goal. McNeil was replaced at the hour mark.
ST: Anthony Gordon – 6/10
Gordan made two clever runs with the ball but never looked like he would score.
Substitutes:
CB: Mason Holgate – 7/10
The English centre-back made plenty of crucial clearances at the back after coming on in the 17th minute.
LM: Dele Alli – 6/10
He struggled to get into the rhythm of the game.
LB: Ruben Vinagre – 6/10
Vinagre was defensively solid.
