West Ham United know Carl Jenkinson pretty closely from his two loan spells with the East London club. It wasn’t the best of loan spells but the injuries played a contributing factor to that. As per recent reports, Arsenal are likely to ship the 24-year-old out of the club once again and West Ham United are interested along with the likes of Championship side Aston Villa and Premier League outfits Hull City and Swansea City.
After two back to back wins following an impressive 2-2 draw against Liverpool, West Ham finally have some form now. With the quality they have at their disposal, relegation seemed a bit out of the window for them but their start to the season was that bad! West Ham are craving for defensive reinforcements and Jenkinson could do a pretty good job on loan.
The right-back position has been problematic for West Ham this season. Neither Alvaro Arbeloa nor Sam Byram have managed to do well on a weekly basis. West Ham’s right-back issues have been there since Jenkinson suffered a nasty injury last season which was his second loan spell and now they are looking towards him again to heal that problem.
Jenkinson has always been a quality right-back and once he was thought be to Arsenal’s first-choice right-back for plenty of years to come. However, his luck was against him. Injuries were never kind to the English international and exactly when he was struggling with injury issues, a young Hector Bellerin amazed the whole world with his excellent abilities at right-back.
Now aged 24, Jenkinson still has his best days ahead of him. All he needs is a good run of form in the first-team which he will not get by staying at Arsenal. West Ham can offer him that chance and there is no reason why he should say no to it.
At the same time, shipping him out on loan again will mean that Wenger still values him in the long run. A good loan spell could help him in his Arsenal career.
Swansea City have quality right-backs in Angel Rangel and Kyle Naughton, so Jenkinson might find it hard to get into the first-team ahead of them. Meanwhile, a loan spell in the Championship with Villa will do him no good. West Ham are a known setup to the Englishman and they are the ideal destination for him right now.
