Barcelona are reportedly targeting Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel. The midfielder will be out of contract at the end of the season.
Juventus are currently the frontrunners to land the midfielder but Barcelona want to go with a slow and steady approach. Juventus want to sign Witsel this January and are ready to offer as much as €6m for the services of the player but Zenit are unlikely to sell the player until they receive an offer in the range of €10m.
The 27-year-old moved to Zenit from Benfica in 2012 and since then has been an indispensable part of the team. He has so far has netted 22 goals for the Russian club in 179 appearances.
Witsel is a more defensive minded midfielder and could be a long-term replacement for Sergio Busquets.
Everton reportedly had offered a whopping £25m to bring him to Goodison Park but the Belgian playmaker preferred to stay at Zenit.
Juventus are also reportedly preparing a move for the player and have to act fast as the Catalans are closely monitoring the player’s development.
