In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, CBS Sport reported Ben Jacobs offered an update on Arsenal and their pursuit of Leicester City star Youri Tielemans this summer. Jacobs said,
“As Leicester have said and as I’ve said repeatedly, Arsenal have never made an offer for Youri Tielemans.
“What they have done is gone to the player and agreed personal terms, broadly speaking.
“What they do know is that Tielemans would like to move to Arsenal.”
Tielemans’ Good Form At Leicester Last Season
Tielemans was a decent season at the King Power Stadium as he put in several influential displays at the heart of Leicester’s midfield. The 25-year-old scored seven goals and earned five assists in 50 matches for the Foxes in the previous campaign across all competitions.
The Belgian talent gave a good account of himself by averaging 2.3 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.1 clearances, 1.8 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from midfield based on his pass success rate of 83.5% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Is Tielemans A Decent Option For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Tielemans can time his challenges well to make a few important interceptions for his side at the centre of the park. He usually clears the danger when required and has got the vision to play some decisive passes in the opposition half.
The Belgian midfield ace can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. Plus, he is an accurate passer as well and can even make a few clever runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty area.
A midfielder of Tielemans’ quality will be an excellent option for the Gunners to consider during this summer transfer period. At 25, he has his best years ahead of him and would add a lot of energy and dynamism to Mikel Arteta‘s midfield department at the Emirates Stadium.
The Belgian international has a wealth of experience in Premier League football and won’t take any time settling into life at the North London club. Therefore, Arteta should think about going all out to secure Tielemans’ services this summer.
