in a recent report Football.London stated that Tottenham Hotspur are being heavily linked to Nicolo Zaniolo of AS Roma. It is understood that Spurs have brought in seven players already to bolster their squad and add more depth as the Lilywhites prepare to compete in four different competitions next season.
Antonio Conte has been busy this summer transfer window making changes to get the squad ready for the next campaign and Zaniolo seems to be a potential target for him.
Zaniolo’s Campaign With AS Roma Last Season
Nicolo Zaniolo missed 11 games for Roma through an injury setback. He only managed to score two goals and create two assists out of 30 appearances in his last campaign.
The Massa-born talent performed consistently despite going through an injury as he averaged 2.5 shots, 1.0 key passes and 2.0 dribbles per game in the Serie A. He was also tidy with his ball distribution as he completed 76.9% of his attempted passes in the Italian top flight (stats via Whoscored).
Should Conte Bring Him To Tottenham Hotspur?
Zaniolo excels at getting past defenders using his excellent ball control and technical dribbling skills. He can easily create space for himself to release the ball for teammates in front of the goal or take a shot at a goal from a distance. Standing at 1.90 meters, his tall frame makes him an indirect set-piece threat. Furthermore, the Italian forward is a counter-attacking threat as he can position himself proficiently when on the front foot.
The 23-year-old has established himself as a key player for Roma. He prefers playing as an attacking midfielder but remains versatile to feature in the centre-forward position if required. However, he remains injury prone and has been consequently sidelined due to the same reason.
Antonio Conte could bring him to Tottenham if Zaniolo could avoid getting injured so frequently; otherwise, his arrival would only be in vain as he would drop down the pecking order since the Italian tactician’s playstyle demands tremendous physicality.
