In a recent interview with talkSPORT, Darren Ambrose tipped his former club Newcastle United to move in for Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak. Ambrose said,
“He (Isak) didn’t have a fantastic season in terms of goals last season but the season before, he was brilliant for Real Sociedad.
“It‘s a lot of money, but we’ve spoken about this before. Newcastle need to make that statement signing, they’ve not done much this season, they’ve built their foundations. Make a statement signing – I think he could be one of them.”
Isak’s Recent Form In Spanish Football
Isak struggled to be consistent with his offensive numbers but did well to catch the eye at times in the final third. The 22-year-old found the back of the net on ten occasions and picked up three assists in 39 appearances for the Spanish side last season across various competitions.
The Swedish striker deserves a lot of credit for averaging 2.3 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga football. However, he needs to improve his link-up play in the opposition half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 74.3% in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
Is Isak A Good Option For Newcastle United?
Isak excels at generating a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in at goal. He can make a few decent runs with the ball in behind the opponent’s backline. The Swedish talent can be a streaky goal-getter in the attacking end of the field.
Hence, Isak would be an excellent option for the Magpies in this off-season. He will inject a lot of goals into Eddie Howe’s frontline at St. James’ Park. Therefore, Newcastle should consider trying their best to land him during this summer transfer window.
At 22, Isak has got a promising future ahead of him and is well-equipped to help the Tyneside outfit challenge for a European spot in the coming seasons. However, there are some question marks over whether he can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football.
