If a report from Football Scotland is believed to be true, Wolves flop Patrick Cutrone has been offered to Rangers over a potential summer transfer. His name has been circulated to find suitors, particularly after disappointing loan spells with Fiorentina, Valencia and Empoli.
The 24-year-old Italian progressed through the academy ranks of Parediense and AC Milan before breaking into the latter’s senior side five years ago. He fired in 27 goals and laid on 9 more in 90 appearances for the Rossoneri and his numbers convinced Wolverhampton Wanderers to splash an amount of around £16m to secure his services back in the summer of 2019.
Things, however, went south for the Italy international ever since. He scored 3 times for the Wanderers in 28 outings, and, therefore, slipped down the pecking order behind Hwang Hee-chan, Raúl Jiménez and Fábio Silva (who recently joined Anderlecht on a season-long loan). The loan stints did not work as mentioned above and Bruno Lage, the Wolves boss, has now left the ‘number 9’ behind for not being in his plans.
While he has been offered to the Light Blues, there is also interest from the English Championship, as claimed by Football Scotland. Cutrone has entered the final year of his Molineux contract and the club are ready to offload him on a minuscule figure over losing him for nothing in less than a year.
Why Rangers Should Not Opt For Cutrone
Rangers are well aware of his availability but, at the same time, won’t rush to a decision unless Alfredo Morelos parts ways before the window is slammed shut. The Colombian hitman has been on the radar of many European hotshots and the Gers are already sweating over his future with his Ibrox deal set to expire next summer.
Kemar Roofe has been impactful as a ‘super sub’ on many occasions. The ex-Leeds United star has exhibited his flexibility across the frontline, but his fitness woes and lack of consistency have been concerning in crucial hours. In the wake of injuries to Morelos and Roofe, Giovanni van Bronckhorst was forced to start Joe Aribo as the makeshift ‘False 9’ in both the Europa League and Scottish Cup finals.
Rangers also had Cedric Itten in their ranks, but the Swiss striker failed to leave a mark while spearheading the attack. He has been offloaded to Young Boys earlier this window and the Glasgow giants have brought in Antonio Colak from PAOK, who is enjoying a productive pre-season. The Croatian is already proving his worth as a targetman and the Gers must not rope in another player with similar traits going forward. They should rather avoid any potential swoop for Cutrone and switch their sights elsewhere.
