In a recent report, The Sun mentioned that Chelsea have agreed on a £55m deal to land Sevilla defender Jules Kounde. It has been mentioned that the French centre-back is set to undergo a medical with the Blues soon ahead of a blockbuster move to Stamford Bridge.
Kounde’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football Last Season
Kounde had an impressive campaign at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium after he put in a series of dominant performances for Sevilla on the defensive end of the field. The talented central defender made 44 appearances for the Andalusian outfit last season, scoring three times and securing one assist on all fronts.
The 23-year-old proved himself to be a consistent performer at the back as he averaged 1.3 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He even took care of possession well when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass completion rate of 88.9% in league football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Kounde Add To Chelsea Boss Thomas Tuchel’s Team?
Kounde is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his side inside his half. He usually clears his lines when in danger of being caught out at the back but is even proficient at playing his way out from the defence. The French defensive ace is primarily a centre-back but can even fill in at right-back if his manager needs him to do so.
At the moment, Kounde is playing some of the best football of his young career and could grow into a world-class player in his position under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.
We can expect Kounde to add a lot of quality to the West London club‘s backline as long as he makes him a smooth transition to life in England. The French talent might even form a dominant defensive partnership with Kalidou Koulibaly at Stamford Bridge in the coming seasons.
With all things considered, Kounde will be a decent signing for the Blues this summer as he will help them compete for even more top honours over the next decade.
