According to latest reports, SSC Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj would be open to discussing any potential interest from English giants Manchester United. His agent, Mario Giuffredi, has confirmed the same in the Italian media.
Manchester United’s woes regarding the fullback positions have been well documented. Jose Mourinho has been typically picky regarding his selection for the side backs in his teams. He lays a lot of emphasis on the players in those wide positions and he demands the maximum work-rate from them.
He hasn’t been convinced by Luke Shaw till now. The defender has failed to nail down his spot ever since he returned from injury and faces a fight to secure his future as a regular. Blind is not the most dynamic and cannot be seen as a long-term option. The self-anointed Special One has also been jittery over using Darmian at right-back and has instead put him under the spotlight at left-back.
But Antonio Valencia’s displays have enabled him to play around with his options in that area but it is clear he needs reinforcements.
Hysaj joined Napoli in the summer of 2015 for a fee of €5 million on a five-year contract from fellow Serie A side-Empoli FC and has since made 43 appearances for the Gli Azzurri. The 22-year has been highly rated thus far and on 8th February 2016 was included in the best 11 of Serie A youth players by football analyst Gianluca Di Marzio alongside the likes of Juventus’ Pablo Dybala and Paul Pogba, AC Milan’s M’Baye Niang and Inter’s Mauro Icardi.
The Albanian has made 60 appearances for both club and country in a year and has even lead THE EAGLES in a 3-1 Euro 2016 warm-up win against Qatar. Last month, Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed that the right back has signed a contract extension that sees him stay at the Stadio San Paolo up until 2021.
“He [Hysaj] is in a quiet period, we have renewed his contract and this was a simple decision from all points of view”, Giuffredi has been quoted as saying by Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.
“He’s having a good season but must reach the levels of last year.
Now comes a bit of peace and he must raise the level of performances and as for Manchester United… well we will see..”, he added.
Although the Mario Giuffredi has confessed that a January move to the Theatre of Dreams is improbable in the current scenario.
“If they arrive with an offer which is tempting, we must take them into consideration..
I do not say that it can be made in January, that would not be correct, but if an offer arrives we would think about it.”
Judging by his words, it can be concluded that the £25 million-rated youngster is intrigued by the possibility of representing the English giants in near future.
