We are almost at the end of the year and like always this has been another year full of swashbuckling entertainment which the English Premier League has provided us with. There have been innumerable moments which are worthy of being remembered for generations while some have the credibility to enter the Premier League folklore. Nothing more than Leicester City winning the Premier League title, though. While we will come back with the Premier League Team of this calendar year let us focus on the players who have had a rousing start to the 2016-17 season.
With almost half the season played, Chelsea are leading the pack by a good margin and the chasers have to tighten their seat belts and prove their worth in the sides.
Let us have a look at the eleven players who have stood out in the League thus far this season.
PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM OF THE SEASON 2016/17 (3-2-4-1)
DEFENCE
Thibaut Courtois gets the nod ahead of the likes of Jordan Pickford and Hugo Lloris. Both the players have strong claims but the sheer number of Chelsea’s clean sheets made him a safe bet in goal. While the defence does have the majority say in the number of goals conceded, the Belgian has played his part when called upon. Kyle Walker has been phenomenal again. His pace and power along with his ability and willingness to track back have been stupendous. Laurent Koscielny has been a rock at the back for the Gunners and his partnership with Mustafi has been pivotal for them. Another top-notch season on the cards for the French International. It was a difficult decision choosing one from the consistent and almost impenetrable Chelsea back three. But we went with Cesar Azpilicueta for his being one of the most reliable and no-nonsense defenders.
MIDFIELD
Fernandinho has been brilliant for Manchester City and has been all over the pitch for them. His suspension made him lose 3 games but his level of display over the two years has been stupendous and he has shown an inclination to move ahead and influence higher up the pitch as well. Alongside him in midfield N’Golo Kante is the obvious choice and his influence has been clearly felt at Chelsea as it was felt a Leicester City.
ATTACK
Eden Hazard has regained his touch and is making merry again this season having scored 8 goals and assisted another. He will be on the left-flank. Kevin De Bruyne has been fantastic again. He has notched up 2 goals and a staggering 10 assists already. Alongside will be Liverpool’s magician Phillipe Coutinho with 5 goals and 5 assists. Alexis Sanchez lines up on the right flank and he has been brilliant for Arsenal and has already scored 12 and assisted 7. Diego Costa leads the line with 13 goals and 5 assists.
