In a recent report, ESPN believes that Tottenham Hotspur have made an agreement with Middlesbrough to sign their full-back Djed Spence in this off-season. It has been mentioned that the Lilywhites have agreed to pay a transfer fee worth up to £19 million for the English wing-back.
Spence’s Loan Spell At Nottingham Forest Last Season
Djed Spence has enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season. He caught the eye after producing plenty of impressive displays at the defensive end of the field. He has scored 3 goals and created 4 assists over 46 appearances across all fronts.
The London-born talent has garnered attention from various clubs as he has played an integral part in Nottingham Forest’s Premier League promotion this season. He has performed consistently after averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, 1.0 key passes, 1.8 dribbles and 1.4 clearances in the EFL Championship. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution, completing 76.1% of his attempted passes in the highest division of the English Football League (stats via whoscored).
Good Move From Conte To Bring Him To Tottenham Hotspur?
Djed Spence is a solid tackler of the ball, and can track back quickly to clear his lines. He isn’t afraid of putting his foot into a tackle and can make some clever interceptions to win the ball back from the opposition. When on the offence, he can make a few decent runs from the right flank using his pace and create meaningful opportunities through his crossing abilities from the wide areas.
The 21-year-old is a promising prospect as he can comfortably play as a right-sided wide midfielder as well. He fits perfectly into Antonio Conte‘s wing-back system. Given his age, he can serve as a long-term solution for Spurs in what has seemed to be a problem area for them over the years.
The English full-back could help the Lilywhites in their run for the Premier League title. Conte has been wise to bring him to North London ahead of the next campaign.
