In a recent report, Calciomercato revealed that Barcelona are eyeing a swap move for Juventus full-back Danilo as they look to send Memphis Depay in the other direction. It has been claimed that the Catalan outfit are hoping to agree on a surprise swap deal with Juve for the Brazilian right-back this summer.
Danilo’s Decent Run Of Form At The Allianz Stadium
Danilo had a solid campaign in Italian football as he put in a series of impressive displays on the right side of Juventus’ defence. The 30-year-old registered two goals and three assists in 31 matches for the Italian side last season across all competitions.
The Bicas-born talent gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field after he averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 2.1 clearances per game in Serie A.
He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the right flank, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 86.3% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Is Danilo A Decent Fit For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Danilo is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side inside his half. He doesn’t shy away from putting his foot through the ball when needed. Danilo is primarily a right-back but can even fill in as a centre-half or as a defensive midfielder. However, the Brazilian sensation needs to be more consistent with his productivity in the final third.
A right-back of Danilo’s experience will be an excellent addition to Barcelona‘s squad ahead of the new campaign. He will inject more bite and steel into Barca boss Xavi‘s defensive department and could help the Catalan outfit compete for major trophies once again in the coming seasons.
Danilo’s defensive skillset and winning mindset make him a decent fit for Barcelona this summer. He is good enough to secure a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp but there are some concerns over whether he would be able to contribute enough offensively in La Liga. Either way, Xavi should focus on getting a deal done for Danilo even if it means losing Memphis Depay in the process during this summer transfer period.
