In a recent report, Football.London claimed that Chelsea could still move in for Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe this summer. It has been mentioned that the Blues are eyeing a move for the French centre-back during this summer transfer window.
Kimpembe’s Good Run Of Form In French Football Last Season
Kimpembe had a solid campaign at Paris in the previous campaign when he put in a run of dominant displays on the defensive end of the pitch. The 26-year-old found the back of the net twice and secured one assist in 41 matches for PSG last season on all fronts.
The 28-time France international was a rock at the back as he averaged 1.1 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 2.4 clearances per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He was even excellent when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 95.5% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Is Kimpembe A Decent Option For Chelsea?
Kimpembe is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and can use his strong 1.84m frame to make a few important blocks at the back. Kimpembe is primarily a central defender but can even fill in as a left-back if his manager needs him to do so.
The French sensation is proficient at playing his way out from inside his half. Hence, he could be a good fit for Thomas Tuchel‘s style of play at Stamford Bridge. He has got the skillset and winning mindset to be a success story at the West London club.
At 26, Kimpembe is about to enter his peak and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at Chelsea as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in English football.
We can expect the Frenchman to strengthen Tuchel’s defensive department. He has what it takes to help the Blues stay competitive in the Premier League as well as challenge in the cup competitions over the next few seasons.
