Real Madrid Forward Close To Penning A New Contract: Good Move For Everyone Involved?

In a recent report, ABC stated that Real Madrid forward Rodrygo is close to penning a new contract. It is understood that Los Blancos are close to tieing the Brazilian winger down to a new deal and is set to announce the news soon.

Rodrygo’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football

Rodrygo made a real impact off the bench for the Madrid giants last season as he helped them do the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League double. The 21-year-old found the back of the net on nine occasions and secured ten assists in 49 matches for Los Blancos in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.

The Osasco-born talent made almost half of his league appearances as a substitute which could be why he only averaged 1.0 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in La Liga. He was even accurate when distributing the ball in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 86.1% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).

Rodrygo Set To Pen A New Deal With Real Madrid: Good Move For Everyone Involved?

Rodrygo has got the pace to get in behind the opponent’s backline and is a composed finisher in the attacking end of the field. He has developed a good understanding with Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Rodrygo is primarily a right-sided wide player but can even play as a winger on the left flank if needed.

The Brazilian sensation deserves a lot of credit for setting up his fair share of goals in the opposition half. He even played an influential role in Real Madrid‘s excellent Champions League run last season.

Thus, Los Blancos are making the right call by rewarding Rodrygo with a long-term contract extension this summer. At 21, he could grow into a top talent under the stewardship of Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu. With all things considered, Rodrygo’s decision to pen a new deal would be a good move for both the player and the Madrid club ahead of the new campaign.
