In a recent report from Football.London it is stated that West Ham United have successfully completed their third signing of the summer as Flynn Downes puts pen to paper arriving from Swansea City. The Hammers are understood to have beaten Crystal Palace after paying a fee in the region of £12 million for bringing Downes to the London Stadium.
Downes’ Campaign For Swansea City Last Season
Flynn Downes has produced a handful of influential displays performing exceptionally in the midfield areas. He managed to score a goal and grab two assists over 38 appearances last season across all competitions.
The defensive midfielder has impressed in the central areas of the pitch after being consistent in the defensive department, averaging 1.3 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 1.1 clearances per game in the EFL Championship. He ended last season with a pass success rate of 92.6% which is the highest in the English second division (stats via whoscored).

The Brentwood-born sensation has a solid presence in the central areas of the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot into a tackle and can make some clever interceptions to win back possession. He can sense the danger quickly and track down his opponents making it difficult for them to take a clear shot at the goal.
The 23-year-old excels at distributing the ball to his teammates and holding onto the ball in the midfield areas.
David Moyes was looking into bringing in reinforcements into the problem areas which primarily involve the attacking department and the backline. He has actively been looking into adding more depth to the frontline and making decisive calls in the goalkeeping position.
An addition to the midfield may come as a surprise as Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek have both fared well in the last season. But it doesn’t hurt to have more reserves coming off the bench to impact the game in the latter half.
So Moyes has been wise to bring him to London Stadium ahead of the next campaign.
