In a recent report, UOL claimed that Newcastle United are showing interest in Santos winger Angelo Gabriel this summer. It is believed that the Magpies were eyeing a €20m move for him with Santos eager to sell him to Barcelona.
Gabriel’s Impressive Rise In Brazilian Football
Gabriel has already made himself a prominent feature in the Brazilian side’s first XI after breaking out as a starter last year. He is destined to have a very promising future, so it is no surprise that the Magpies are trying to land him.
The 17-year-old has scored two goals and grabbed four assists in 74 matches for his current employers so far.
The talented teenager has caught the eye by averaging 1.7 shots, 1.3 key passes and 4.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in Brasilerao. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 83% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Is Gabriel A Prospect For The Future?
Gabriel is an exciting dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some promising runs out on the flanks. He can be quite dangerous when left isolated in a 1v1 situation and can even create some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. Gabriel is primarily a right-sided wide player but can even fill in as a left-winger if needed.
However, the Brazilian prospect has to figure out a way to be more productive in front of the opponent’s goal. Still, there is no denying that he has the potential to become a future star at the highest level. Therefore, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe would be wise to try everything in his power to get Gabriel on board this summer.
The Magpies might find it difficult to convince Santos to sell their prized asset to them. However, they have now got the financial resources to lure the Brazilian whizkid to St. James’ Park during this summer transfer window.
At 17, Gabriel is definitely a prospect to watch out for in the future, so the Tyneside outfit should step up their chase to acquire his services in this off-season.
