In a recent report, ESPN has confirmed that Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling has completed negotiating personal terms with Chelsea. It is understood that the Blues are closing in on the deal that is proposed to be worth £45million plus £10 million in add-ons.
Sterling’s Decent Campaign For Manchester City Last Season
Sterling had a fruitful campaign at the Etihad Stadium as he remained productive in the attacking third of the field helping the Sky Blues lift the Premier League crown yet again. He found the back of the net on 17 occasions and created nine assists over 47 appearances last season across all competitions.
The Jamaica-born sensation performed consistently in Guardiola’s frontline by averaging 1.9 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was also tidy while distributing possession to his teammates, completing 85.4% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Where Does Guardiola Need To Invest After Selling Two Of His Forwards?
Sterling will complete his move in a couple of days with Gabriel Jesus already exiting the Etihad to join the Gunners. Pep Guardiola will have a decent sum of money after Sterling’s departure, so we could expect a few more players in the next couple of weeks until the transfer window closes.
The Sky Blues have enough reinforcements in the attacking department but the City boss could bring in another player to add more depth in the frontline. The priority however remains in bringing in a left-back to solve their defensive issues. The Mancunian giants are in pursuit of Marc Cucurela and now with the influx of money, they have all the more reason to move in for him.
Selling Sterling and Jesus was something they could not have avoided since both of them would have demanded more playtime and with Erling Haaland’s arrival, there would be enough competition in the frontline. This posed a threat to both their growth and that has sought them to part ways with the Etihad club ahead of the next season.
