In a recent report, Express mentioned that Chelsea, who have been showing serious interest in Matthis De Ligt from Juventus, have been offered a swap deal for the centre-back. The Italian giants are understood to be interested in Timo Werner and they have reportedly told the Blues that a deal could be materialised if Werner was to be swapped with De Ligt.
De Ligt’s Campaign For Juventus Last Season
De Ligt had a solid campaign at the Allianz Stadium producing several dominant displays at the heart of the Old Lady’s backline last season. The 37-time Netherlands international scored three goals and created one assist over 42 appearances in the last campaign across all fronts.
The former Ajax star performed well to average 1.1 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per game in Serie A. He was impressive when distributing the ball from the back, completing 88.9% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Chelsea Boss Thomas Tuchel Make A Move?
De Ligt has a strong presence at the defensive third of the pitch. He can make some solid tackles and a few timely interceptions to win the ball back for his side. With a tall frame of 1.89m, the Dutch powerhouse can dominate his opponents in the air and doesn’t hesitate in throwing his body on the line to block an inbound shot. He can sense the danger quickly and clear his lines to stop the attackers in their tracks.
