In a recent report, Sky Sports stated that West Ham United have planned to make an offer for Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard. It is understood that Lingard would become a free agent at the end of next month and David Moyes is looking to add more depth to his squad. Hence the West Ham boss has decided to move in for him.
Lingard’s Last Campaign In The Premier League
Jesse Lingard had a bad run of form last season at Old Trafford failing to earn a regular spot in the Red Devils’ Starting XI. He managed to score only two goals over 18 appearances for Ralph Ragnick’s side in the last campaign across all fronts.
The English talent averaged 0.5 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.1 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He was also able to make only 9.1 average passes per game with a pass success rate of 88.3% in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag Let Him Exit Old Trafford?
Lingard excels at creating space for himself to get a few shots in on target. He can even use his quickness to make some clever turns inside the penalty box and make a few decent runs with the ball on the attacking end of the field.
The England international is a decent finisher but needs to improve on his productivity as he has not been in good form for quite a while now. The loan spell at London Stadium in the 2020/21 season turned out to be successful but since returning to the Red Devils the attacker has fallen below in the pecking order. Furthermore, he also needs to work on linking up with his teammates when on the attacking front.
Still, his strengths outweigh his weaknesses if he can recover from his slump of a form over the coming months. The Hammers are wise in identifying him as a potential target and bringing him to the London Stadium this summer since he becomes a free agent.
The English forward has no place in Ten Hag’s Manchester United and he could serve as a decent cover in the frontline at the East London club. The 29-year-old has got a few years left in him, which makes him a fine choice for David Moyes to consider during this off-season. Ten Hag’s upheaval threatens his position at Old Trafford, so Lingard would be wise to move away before the next campaign begins.
