In a recent report from The Shields Gazette, it was mentioned that West Ham United are in pursuit of Hoffenheim’s left-back David Raum. It has also been mentioned that Manchester United and Newcastle United have both joined with the Hammers to compete for this £34m defender’s signature this summer.
Raum’s Impressvie Campaign For Hoffenheim
David Raum has had an astounding campaign producing some outstanding performances in the backline of the German outfit. He has scored 3 goals and created 11 assists over 35 appearances last season across all fronts.
He has performed consistently in the defensive third of the field after averaging 1.6 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.1 clearances per game in the Bundesliga. His ball distribution has also been decent, completing 79.5% of his attempted passes in German first-division football (stats via whoscored)
What Could He Bring To West Ham United?
Raum is a decent tackler of the ball and can make some crucial interceptions to win the ball back from the opposition. He can dribble the ball well and make some decent runs down the left flank using his pace and quickness. The German defender can even chip in with a few assists besetting up his teammates using his wide array of crossing abilities.
The 24-year-old is primarily a left-back but can play play as a left-sided wide midfielder as well. We can expect Raum to inject more quality into West Ham head coach David Moyes’ defence and add more depth to the squad. At this age, he will only get better over the coming seasons, so Moyes would be wise to bring him to London Stadium.
Moyes could unlock his full potential over the next few years. However, there are doubts over whether he would be able to adapt to English football. Still, the Hammers should try everything to get a deal over the line for him before the start of the new campaign.
