In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Jacque Talbot claimed that Newcastle United are in talks to recruit Brentford midfielder, Christian Eriksen. Talbot shed some light on the Magpies’ interest in the Danish midfield ace and said, “They have met. I was told they met on Monday – some preliminary talks – but I think he’s been sort of meeting at various clubs, to be honest, so it doesn’t really count for much. He’s sort of been talking to a number of clubs.”
Eriksen’s Impressive Run Of Form At The Brentford Community Stadium
Eriksen had a decent spell with the Bees last season as he managed to establish himself as one of the top performers in Thomas Frank’s first XI. The 30-year-old scored once and earned four assists in 11 matches for the Bees in the previous campaign in multiple competitions.
The 115-time Denmark international was a consistent performer at the centre of the park based on his average of 1.2 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.1 clearances, 2.0 shots, 2.7 key passes, 3.0 crosses and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League.
He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 80.9% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
What Will Eriksen Bring To Newcastle United This Summer?
Eriksen is a solid tackler of the ball and can offer decent protection for his teammates at the back. He remains an excellent crosser of the ball and can engineer a handful of promising chances for others around him in the final third.
The Denmark international can strike the ball with power and precision from long range. Hence, he is well-equipped to enhance the quality of Newcastle United‘s starting XI. Furthermore, the former Tottenham Hotspur star has got enough experience at the highest level to help the Magpies push for a European spot in the coming seasons.
We can expect Eriksen to bring a lot of creativity to Eddie Howe‘s midfield. Therefore, the Tyneside giants should consider trying everything they can to bring the Danish sensation to St. James’ Park when he becomes a free agent at the end of this month.
