In a recent interview with Football Insider, Noel Whelan tipped Liverpool to move in for Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham. Whelan said,
“I don’t think there’s no money in the bank. I think it’s there. It’s whether you can get that player.
“We’re looking at Haaland leaving Dortmund to Man City. We know for a fact that Dortmund don’t lose two big players in one window. Bellingham, you would like to think that he is the perfect fit for player and for club. That is probably their next big target, so to speak.
“If you’re going to spend a lot of money, it’s going to be in that midfield area. I think they’ve covered their bases when it comes to wide areas. Next year, you look at the Salah situation.
“How is that going to transform? We don’t know yet, I think probably he’ll probably leave on a free, his last year at Liverpool. Try win the Premier League and go as far as they can in the Champions League.
“The next port of call is that replacement for your Hendersons and the elder statesmen in central midfield with a Bellingham. I think that is where they lay their next big money, in my opinion.”
Bellingham’s Excellent Run Of Form In German Football
Bellingham had an incredible campaign at Dortmund as he scored six goals and secured 14 assists in 44 matches for the German giants on all fronts.
The English youngster was a great two-way midfielder for Dortmund after he averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.4 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game in Bundesliga. He even interchanged possession well from midfield, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 83.7% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Is Bellingham A Good Fit For Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp?
Bellingham is a solid tackler of the ball and doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when required. He can chip in by netting some important goals for his team and can set up a handful of clear-cut chances for his teammates in the final third.
The English sensation can also make a few intelligent runs with the ball towards the opposition’s penalty area. Bellingham ticks all the right boxes in terms of what it takes to be a good fit for Jurgen Klopp‘s style of play at Anfield.
Thus, Liverpool would be wise to listen to Whelan’s advice by engineering a move for the Borussia Dortmund midfield ace in the future. Bellingham could even serve as a good long-term successor to Jordan Henderson at the Merseyside club.
