In a recent print edition, Marca stated that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi this summer. It has been claimed that Spurs are set to rival Atletico Madrid in pursuit of the French centre-half.
Disasi’s Decent Run Of Form In French Football
Disasi had a solid campaign in Ligue 1 in the previous campaign when he put in a series of dominant displays at the centre of Monaco’s backline. The 24-year-old featured in 45 matches for the French outfit this season, finding the back of the net on three occasions across multiple competitions.
The Gonesse-born talent gave a good account of himself on the defensive third of the field based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 87.2% in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
What Will Disasi Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?
Standing at 1.90m, Disasi is a towering presence inside his half and can make a few solid tackles to secure the ball back for his team. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is quite proficient at playing his way out from the back. Disasi is primarily a centre-back but can play as a left-back or as a right-back if required.
The French sensation will be a welcome addition to Antonio Conte’s squad as he will enhance the quality of Tottenham‘s defence. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting place at the North London club in the coming seasons.
At 24, Disasi is only going to get better with each season and could help Spurs compete across all competitions over the next few years. He will bring a lot of bite and steel to Conte’s defence but there are some question marks over whether he would be able to cope with the high intensity of English football if he ends up sealing a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.
