In a recent report, AS stated that Newcastle United are still in the race for Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco this summer. It has been mentioned that the Magpies would have to rival AC Milan in pursuit of the Belgian international.
Carrasco’s Decent Form In Spanish Football
Carrasco has experienced an up and down season in the Spanish capital as he managed to put in some impressive displays but has at times struggled to be productive on the left side of Diego Simeone’s attack. The 28-year-old has registered six goals and seven assists in 44 matches for the Spanish club during this campaign in multiple competitions.
The Belgian international has been a consistent performer in the final third based on his average of 1.5 shots, 1.6 key passes, 1.2 crosses and 2.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga.
He even distributed the ball well in the final third after making 80.6% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Snap Carrasco Up This Summer?
Carrasco is proficient at getting a few shots in on target and has the vision to create some promising chances for his teammates in the final third. The Belgian sensation can make a few clever runs with the ball out on the flanks and is a decent crosser as well.
We can expect Carrasco to add a handful of goals and some creativity to Eddie Howe‘s frontline. He would serve as an upgrade over Allan Saint-Maximin, who has struggled to be clinical at St. James’ Park over the past ten months.
At 28, Carrasco is playing at his prime and has got what it takes to make an immediate impact at the Tyneside club if Howe manages to bring him on board this summer. The Belgian wing wizard has what it takes to even help the Magpies push for a top-six finish in the Premier League next season. Hence, it makes sense for Newcastle United to snap Carrasco up when the transfer window reopens later this month.
