Jordan Henderson has admitted that Ross Barkley apologised to him after the match for his horrific tackle. Liverpool defeated Everton 1-0 with a late goal from Sadio Mane but the game was marred by the incident.
Barkley was trying to snatch a ball from the Liverpool captain and caught him with a late tackle. It appeared to be a reckless challenge and could have been worse but Henderson was lucky enough to escape without being injured.
The referee only brandished a yellow card to caution the player. Players from both the teams were involved in a scuffle that led the referee to show the Toffees right back Seamus Coleman a yellow card.
Henderson said, “The game was a bit wild at times.
“I think the tackle was pretty late but Ross is a good lad and I’m good friends with him.
“It was late and he apologised after the game.
“It’s a derby, it doesn’t matter if you’re friends off the field. You give 100 per cent and you move on.
“Ross is a good lad and it was just mistimed.”
