In a recent report, Sport claimed that Barcelona are in the running to recruit Bayern Munich goal machine Robert Lewandowski. It is understood that the Bavarian club could allow the Polish striker to join the Catalans this summer if they manage to get Sadio Mane from Liverpool in this off-season.
Lewandowski’s Outstanding Form At The Allianz Arena
Lewandowski has enjoyed another excellent campaign in Germany as he put in several match-winning displays as the spearhead of Bayern’s attack. The experienced frontman has made 46 appearances for the German club this season, netting 50 goals and securing seven assists in various competitions.
The 33-year-old deserves a pat on the back for averaging 4.7 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution as he has made 77.4% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
Is Lewandowski A Dream Option For Barcelona?
Lewandowski is an experienced centre-forward who has scored goals at a high rate for Bayern over the past few seasons. He can still win his fair share of aerial duels and usually holds possession up quite well for his teammates in the final third.
The Poland international can be quite creative with his passing and excels at engineering some meaningful openings in and around the opponent’s penalty area.
A striker of Lewandowski’s quality will no doubt be a dream option for Barcelona head coach Xavi to pursue this winter. He will be expected to add plenty of firepower to Barca‘s attack and might even serve as an upgrade over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is a good finisher but is nowhere near the level of the Polish forward.
All in all, the Catalan giants should think about trying everything in their power to bring Lewandowski to Spain before the start of the new campaign. He will enhance the quality of Xavi’s starting XI considerably and could help the Spanish club challenge for a few trophies in the not-too-distant future.
