Jürgen Klopp has hailed Daniel Sturridge after the striker helped Liverpool to defeat Everton in the Merseyside derby on Monday. Sturridge replaced Divock Origi in the 80th minute and made an immediate impact after a few minutes.
He took a shot in the wee minutes of extra time that hit the post and Sadio Mane put the ball into the net from the rebound to give the Reds a crucial victory.
Earlier, the 27-year old made a quicker than expected recovery and made himself available for the encounter. Liverpool climbed to second place with 37 points and are within six points of League leaders Chelsea who earlier defeated West Bromwich Albion 1-0 to maintain their lead at the top.
Klopp gave a hint before the match that the England international could play some part in the match. Klopp said after the match, “When you have Daniel on the bench you are always thinking about when is the right time to bring him on.
“It is an unusual situation but at the same time a good option when you can bring on his fresh legs when the game is so tight. He helped us a lot tonight in a difficult game.”
