In a recent report, The Daily Mail stated that Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is set to leave the Mancunian club this summer. It is believed that the German midfield ace has been told to find a new club by Man City.
Gundogan’s Impressive Form In English Football
Gundogan has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Etihad Stadium as he has managed to put in some eye-catching performances at the centre of Pep Guardiola’s midfield. The 31-year-old has found the back of the net on eight occasions and secured six assists in 42 matches for the Mancunian outfit this season across multiple competitions.
The German international has been a consistent performer for Man City based on his average of 2.0 shots, 1.5 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 91.1% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Cut Gundogan Loose This Summer?
Gundogan is a tidy passer of the ball and can create some decent chances for others around him in the opposition half. He can still chip in with a few crucial goals for his team in the final third and can even make some clever runs both with and without the ball towards the opponent’s penalty area. The German usually plays as a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position as a free-flowing attacker if required.
Gundogan has been a key asset in Guardiola‘s squad this season but at 31, he is a player on the decline. His current contract at the Etihad Stadium is set to expire at the end of next season. Thus, it makes sense for Man City to cut him loose this summer so that they can get a fee for him and use it to bolster other areas of their squad.
