In a recent print edition, O Jogo revealed that Newcastle United would have to make an improved offer for Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio. It is believed that the Portuguese giants want the Magpies to up their €30m offer for their prized asset.
Inacio’s Impressive Run Of Form In Portuguese Football
Inacio is having a solid campaign in Lisbon as he has put in several impressive displays at the heart of Sporting’s defence. The 20-year-old has scored five goals and grabbed three assists in 45 matches for his current club this season on all fronts.
The 20-year-old has given a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 2.4 clearances per 90 minutes in the Liga Portugal. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 90.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Is Inacio The Right Choice For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Inacio is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually doesn’t take too many chances when clearing his lines at the back. Inacio is primarily a central defender but can even fill in as a right-back if needed.
Standing at 1.85m, the Portuguese talent can be a real handful for any attacker because of his strength and doesn’t mind putting his body on the line to block a goal-bound shot from the opposition. Furthermore, he is proficient at playing his way out from the back. Inacio has even chipped in by scoring and creating a few important goals for his side.
At 20, the future is quite bright for the Sporting whizkid. Thus, Newcastle will do well to get a deal over the line for Inacio this summer.
We can expect the Portuguese prospect to add more quality to Eddie Howe‘s defence and even help the Magpies push for a European place in the coming seasons. With all things considered, Inacio will be a decent, long-term choice for the Tyneside giants to consider during this summer transfer period.
