In a recent interview with RB Sport, West Ham United midfielder Nikola Vlasic’s agent Tonci Martic offered an update on the future of his client. Martic said,
“Vlašić does not want and does not plan to return to Russia.”
Vlasic’s Unimpressive Spell In English Football
Vlasic is having a tough season at the London Stadium as he has struggled to be productive with his performances for the Hammers over the past ten months. The Split-born talent has been involved in 31 matches for the East London outfit during this campaign, netting one goal and grabbing two assists across all fronts.
The Croat attacking midfielder has made most of league appearances off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.4 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, Vlasic has distributed the ball relatively well after completing 80.8% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Keep Hold Of Vlasic?
On his day, Vlasic can be a decent playmaker in the final third as he has got the vision to unlock the opposition defence with a killer pass. However, things have just not worked out for him at West Ham so far.
The 35-time Croatia international has struggled to earn regular first-team starts under the stewardship of David Moyes this season. At the moment, he is serving as a squad player at the London Stadium.
Vlasic’s current contract with the Hammers is set to run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, Moyes would find it difficult to move him on unless the Croat can turn his fortunes around for the better in the future.
For now, the West Ham head coach would be better off keeping hold of Vlasic and giving him another season to prove his worth at the highest level. However, if a club comes in with a fair offer for the talented attacking midfielder this summer, it would be too tempting for West Ham to turn down as they can potentially use the money generated from his sale to strengthen other areas of their squad.
