In a major blow to Sunderland’s transfer hopes, Deportivo La Coruna striker Florin Andone has recently dismissed reports of a potential move to Sunderland this coming winter.
In an interview with Marca, the 23-year-old revealed, “I am very happy here. I am not thinking about moving abroad. The Premier League does not appeal to me. Right now, I am at the best club in the world because I am very comfortable.”
Moyes had been eyeing a move for the forward for some time. The lad has already scored six league goals and registered one assist, and is attracting interest from numerous clubs. However, Moyes still has other options to bolster his attack coming January.
We look at three alternatives Moyes could go for after this setback.
Łukasz Teodorczyk
His consistency in front of goal has attracted many top European clubs. With a dominating physique, Teodorczyk hardly gets out-muscled by defenders. It makes him all the more ideal for Premier League football. His spell at Anderlecht this season has been nothing short of outstanding.
Along with a good height and physique, Teodorczyk also has a good pace that complements his cause. The Polish attacker excels in the air and has won an average of 3.8 aerial duels this season in the Europa League. Alongside the likes of Jermain Defoe and Fabio Borini, he could be a lethal addition.
Leonardo Ulloa
Ulloa has been on the radar of Sunderland for quite some time. The Argentine played an important role in handing Leicester City the Premier League title last season. However, with the growth of club’s stature and the inclusion of new recruitments, he has gone further down the pecking order. He was already behind Vardy and Okazaki last season.
He is unhappy at the club and is looking for a regular place elsewhere. The former Brighton and Hove Albion striker has the needed experience to break directly into the first team and could also be a great addition.
Moussa Marega
He could be a real upgrade for Sunderland. The FC Porto striker has been a revelation this season during his loan spell at Vitoria de Guimaraes. The 183 cm forward could prove to be a decent aerial threat in the Stoke City squad, who otherwise lack tall players up front.
It is Marega’s stamina, which Moyes could greatly use to turn their season around. He too is a player who relies on his physicality to dominate opponents and likes to tackle and chase defenders, something that Diouf lacks.
