In a recent report, Bild (subscription required) mentioned that West Ham United are eyeing a move for Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos who is currently playing on loan at VfB Stuttgart. It is understood that the Hammers are prepared to launch an offer to bring the Greek centre-back to the London Stadium this summer.
Mavropanos’ Impressive Form At The Mercedes-Benz Arena
The 24-year-old is experiencing a decent loan spell in German football as he has managed to produce a series of impressive displays at the centre of Stuttgart’s defence. Mavropanos has made 31 appearances for the German side this season, netting five goals and grabbing one assist on all fronts.
The Greek defensive ace has performed well to average 1.9 shots, 2.2 key passes and 5.3 clearances per game in the Bundesliga. He has even taken care of the ball when distributing possession from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 80.4% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Is Mavropanos A Good Choice For West Ham United?
Standing at 1.94m, Mavropanos can use his strong frame to dominate the aerial battle with the opposition. He is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the pitch.
The Greek centre-half doesn’t take too many risks when clearing the danger at the back. Plus, he is proficient at playing his way out from inside his half.
Mavropanos is a player on the rise, so the Hammers will do well to lure him away from Arsenal during this summer transfer window. His current contract at the Emirates Stadium is set to expire in the summer of 2023. Hence, West Ham boss David Moyes will fancy getting the Greek talent on board on a cut-price deal in this off-season.
We can expect Mavropanos to add a lot of bite and steel to Moyes’ defence and serve as an ideal replacement for Angelo Ogbonna at the London Stadium in the coming seasons. Therefore, the Greek sensation will be a great choice for the East London outfit to pursue ahead of the new campaign.
