Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a muscle injury against Manchester City, Arsene Wenger has confirmed. Chamberlain replaced Alex Iwobi at the stroke of 65th minutes but had to be taken off and was substituted by Mohamed Elneny 13 minutes later.
Arsenal squandered a 1-0 lead and went on to lose the match 2-1. Theo Walcott scored his eighth goal of the season to give Arsenal an early lead. But a rejuvenated Manchester City fought from a goal down as strikes from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling gave the hosts a much needed boost in their Premier League campaign.
Chamberlain’s injury piled more misery on Wenger who already has a host of players on the injury list. Santi Cazorla has been already ruled out for a long time after having a surgery and Shkodran Mustafi is set to miss the busy festive period.
Wenger said, “He’s injured. It looks like a hamstring – it’s a muscular problem.”
The lost left Arsenal in 4th place with 34 points while City are on 36 points, seven points adrift of table-toppers Chelsea.
