In a recent report, The Daily Mail mentioned that Aston Villa are in talks to land Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara. It has been mentioned that the Villans could face competition in the form of Atletico Madrid in pursuit of the French midfield ace, who is keen on a move to the Premier League this summer.
Kamara’s Impressive Form In French Football
Kamara is experiencing a solid campaign at the Orange Vélodrome as he has produced a handful of dominant displays at the centre of Marseille’s midfield. The 22-year-old has found the back of the net once and secured one assist in 46 matches for the French club this season in all competitions.
The Marseille-born sensation has protected his backline well by averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 1.2 clearances per game in Ligue 1. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from midfield after making 90.9% of his attempted passes in the top tier of French football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Kamara Add To Aston Villa Boss Steven Gerrard’s Side?
Kamara is a tough-tackling midfielder who can sense the danger quickly to make a few important interceptions for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t take too many chances when clearing his lines at the back and can offer decent protection for his teammates on the defensive end of the field. The Frenchman can even pose a threat going forward but needs to work on improving his end-product in the final third.
At the moment, Kamara is playing at a high level, so it is only logical for the Villans to move in for him in this off-season. He will be an upgrade over Douglas Luiz at Villa Park in the coming seasons.
We can expect Kamara to add plenty of bite and steel to Steven Gerrard‘s midfield department. He could even help the West Midlands club push for a European place in the Premier League over the next few years.
At 22, Kamara has got a very promising future ahead of him which makes him a good, long-term option for Aston Villa to pursue ahead of the new season.
