In a recent report, talkSPORT stated that Everton are hoping to cash in on Jordan Pickford this summer. It is understood that the Toffees are planning to entertain offers for their first-team keeper if they manage to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.
Pickford’s Up And Down Season At Merseyside So Far
Pickford is having a tough campaign at Goodison Park but has done well to produce some influential displays while acting as Everton’s primary keeper. The England international has been involved in 33 matches, shipping in 57 goals while earning six clean sheets across various competitions.
The 28-year-old deserves credit for averaging 1.0 clearances and 7.5 long balls per 90 minutes in the Premier League. Pickford has often gone long when distributing the ball from the back which could be why he has only completed 48.4% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Everton Head Coach Frank Lampard Cut Pickford Loose This Summer?
Pickford is a talented goalie who can make some world-class saves on his day. He has sometimes been guilty of being inconsistent but has got decent reflexes that allow him to pull off a few important stops at the back.
The English custodian usually clears his lines when the opposition attackers are closing him down and is a decent handler of the ball. His long-range passing is also quite good but Pickford tends to give the ball away when trying to pick out his teammates inside his half.
The English sensation has not played his best football this season which could be why Everton are currently languishing in 18th place with just five matches left to be played this season.
The Toffees boss Frank Lampard would be better off cashing in on Pickford, especially if he can steer the Merseyside club away from relegation in the coming weeks. His current contract at Goodison Park is set to run out in the summer of 2024, so it makes sense for Lampard to cut him loose this summer and use the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a capable replacement ahead of the new season.
