Garry Monk has certainly managed to make the Leeds fans hopeful about a realistic chance of making their way back to the Premier League after a long time. With yet another win in the Championship beating Brentford 1-0, the Whites stay in the race for a playoff spot. They are right now fifth on the table with a 2-point cushion over seventh-placed Derby County.
The gap between third-placed Reading and 12th-placed Barnsley is just nine points now and anything can happen over the long season that is remaining. Leeds have no room for complacency and Monk will be aware of that fact. Also, he has to take another thing into account is that his side’s over-reliance on the shoulders of Chris Wood for all the goals.
Leeds should go for a proved forward in January to bolster their promotion hopes and in this article, we will take a look at three players whom they could target-
Jordan Rhodes
Rhodes has been one of the best strikers in Championship over the last few seasons but he is finding it hard to find his feet in the Premier League after getting promotion with Middlesbrough. He had only 204 minutes of first team football to his name this season and could be on his way out in January.
The Scot’s prolific record in Championship makes him a welcome addition at Elland Road. Rhodes had what it takes to push in-form Wood for a first-team place or even replace him.
Leanardo Ulloa
Another Premier League striker who has found it hard to get regular minutes on the pitch is Leanardo Ulloa. The former Brighton and Hove Albion striker helped Leicester City win the Premier League title last season but with the arrival of Slimani and Musa, he has gone out of favour under Ranieri.
The Argentine is a proven forward in both Championship and in the Premier League and could prove to be a very solid investment.
Rudy Gestede
The Benin international is quite an experienced campaigner in the Championship but has gone out of favour at Villa Park under Steve Bruce.
A strong target man, he can bring his teammates into the game and is a prolific goalscorer. Aston Villa have a plethora of options available up front and Gestede could very well be on his way out in January and Leeds could definitely try to bring him at Elland Road to add firepower to their attack.
