Liverpool will visit Everton coming Monday in the 227th Merseyside derby. Both the teams come into the match on the back of encouraging wins and it promises to be a cracker of a match. Here are four players, who could make a real impact on the game.
Adam Lallana
There was never a doubt about his quality of football but he has been largely unnoticeable in the Liverpool squad since his move in 2014. It’s difficult to say whether his reviving form is a result of Klopp’s impact, but the English midfielder has definitely found purpose in his playing this season.
He may appear to many as the hardest working player on the team, but in reality, he has started to play more intelligently now than before. He looks for crevices in the opponent’s defence and tries playing through them more often, which has further increased his impact with Liverpool’s aggressive style of play.
Although he isn’t the best Liverpool player currently, he possesses a specific set of skills that is not found in Coutinho, Firmino or Mane. Lallana seems to be Liverpool’s biggest threat when they visit Goodison Park in the late kick-off.
Ross Barkley
He has had an erratic season so far and a lot of that has to do with the underperformance of Everton’s wingers. Barkley is most effective on the counter as the young English midfielder knows how to make optimal use of his speed and physique when roaring up.
While Kevin Mirallas, Bolasie and Deulofeu’s being out of form had subdued Barkley’s impact on Everton’s game, even leading him to drop to the bench, he was always likely to bounce back.
In fact, with the Toffees experiencing a convincing win over Arsenal midweek where Barkley played a crucial part, Koeman would be hoping his high-spirited attacking third to continue the aggressive stance, which has best suited their style of play.
