In a recent report, Sport revealed that Manchester United are eyeing a summer move for Barcelona playmaker Frenkie de Jong. It is believed that the Red Devils are planning to move in for the Dutch midfield ace during the summer transfer window.
De Jong’s Decent Run Of Form In Spanish Football
De Jong is having a solid campaign at the Nou Camp after producing a handful of influential displays at the centre of Xavi’s midfield. The 24-year-old has registered four goals and five assists in 42 matches for Barca this season on all fronts.
The former Ajax talent has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.6 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 91.4% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Is De Jong The Right Fit For Manchester United?
De Jong is a solid tackler of the ball and can strike the ball with power and precision from long range. He has got the vision to create some meaningful openings for his teammates in the opposition half.
The Netherlands international can make some clever runs with the ball in the final third and retain possession with conviction in the final third. He can read the game well and is a technically gifted midfielder.
At 24, de Jong has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good fit for Man United this summer. The Arkel-born talent will add more creativity and depth to the Red Devils‘ match-day squad. He would serve as an upgrade over Fred and Scott McTominay at the Theatre of Dreams over the next few years.
Recruiting de Jong will be a decent move for the Mancunian outfit as he could help bring some success back to Old Trafford in the coming seasons. Furthermore, he will only get better with each season. Thus, Man United would be wise to engineer a move to lure de Jong to the northwest of England when the transfer window commences later this year.
