In a recent print edition, The Sunday Mirror (17 April, Page 74) claimed that West Ham United are keeping a keen eye on Fleetwood Town midfielder Paddy Lane. It is believed that the Hammers are showing interest in recruiting the Northern Ireland midfield ace.
Lane’s Recent Rise At The Highbury Stadium
The 21-year-old is having a productive season in English football as he has put in a handful of productive displays at the heart of Fleetwood Town’s midfield. Lane has registered five goals and eight assists in 37 matches for the English outfit during this campaign across all fronts.
The former Hyde United talent has been a solid presence at the centre of the park based on his average of 0.9 tackles, 1.6 clearances, 1.5 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the League One. However, he has been sloppy with his ball distribution after completing 71% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
West Ham United Keeping Tabs On Lane: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Lane is a good tackler of the ball and can clear the danger when needed. He can strike the ball with power and precision from long range and can even create some inviting chances going forward. The three-time Northern Ireland Under-21 international can even make some energetic runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty box.
Lane has added plenty of goals and assists to his game while playing for Fleetwood in League One. However, only time will tell whether he can perform at a high level for West Ham in the Premier League.
At 21, the future is quite bright for the Northern Ireland whizkid as long as he can continue to take strides towards improving himself with each season. Hence, the Hammers should think about going all out to acquire the services of Lane during the summer transfer period.
David Moyes has got enough experience to get the best out of the Fleetwood Town prospect in the coming seasons. He is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future which makes him a good, long-term option for the East London outfit to pursue ahead of the new campaign.
