Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta vowed to win more trophies for the West Londoners. The Spaniard recently signed a new three-year contract extension to extend his stay with the Blues.
The 27-year old recently notched up his 200th appearances for the Blues when he appeared against Sunderland in the last match. He arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2012 and has been a constant in Antonio Conte’s three-man defence alongside Gary Cahill and David Luiz. He has featured in all top-flight games this season.
The Spanish international said, “It’s a good number, when I arrived I wouldn’t have imagined I would play that many games.
“I just want to keep going because obviously I have a lot more to give. It’s a nice figure to reach but I want to achieve more because I feel I can, I want to win more trophies for this club.
“I’ve improved a lot. When I first came I was a right-back and in the first few months I wasn’t playing too much.”
Chelsea are currently top of the table and are on an 11-game winning streak. Azpilicueta has accustomed himself beautifully in the three-man defence and has been a regular in the starting lineup.
He went on to add, “There was then a transition where I ended up playing as a left-back for a long time and now I’m playing as part of a three-man central defence.
“I always try to give my best and respond to what the manager wants. Playing in different positions enables you to improve and learn.”
