According to a report by 90min, Newcastle United are showing keen interest in signing West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen. Bowen has been very influential for the Hammers this season in helping them rise to the top six in the league table. His great form is one of the main catalysts behind the east London side’s sensational recent form.
Newcastle joins the race along with Liverpool, as both sides are showing a keen interest in Jarrod Bowen. The Reds are scouting the forward as they are yet to resolve Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane’s long-term futures at the club.
Bowen’s Run With Newcastle United This Season
The 25-year-old has scored 14 goals for West Ham United on all fronts this season and has bagged 9 assists over 42 appearances for his club, which is the highest of any English player in the division. (stats via Whoscored)
He could have gotten a call in the national side in the previous month but unfortunately suffered from a fractured bone in his foot which ruled out a possible call from England head coach Gareth Southgate.
What Could Bowen Bring In For Newcastle United?
He is an adept forward who can play in various positions including in midfield and the attack. Eddie Howe plays the Magpies in a 4-3-3 formation which is similar to David Moyes’ side. So Bowen would not require a lot of time to adapt to Newcastle’s style of play.
With Newcastle United often attacking through long balls, Bowen could be useful as a playmaker who cuts inside from the wide areas. He also likes to create opportunities using his vision which has helped the Hammers tremendously this season.
Jarrod Bowen would be a significant upgrade over Ryan Fraser who has just managed to score 4 goals over 33 appearances for Newcastle. (stats by Whoscored)
The cash-rich Magpies intend to rebuild their attack over the next season and have earmarked the signing of a new number nine and at least two wide forwards – the bracket Bowen would fit into. He still has three years left on the long-term deal he signed when joining West Ham in January 2020 and seems happy at the club.
Newcastle United could easily match the wage demands if Bowen can be tempted into leaving Moyes’ side. West Ham would likely need to remunerate the player at the level of Kurt Zouma, the highest paid in the club, if they wish to keep him for the next season.
