Araujo’s Solid Season In Spanish Football
Araujo is having a decent campaign at the Nou Camp after producing a run of solid performances at the heart of Barca’s defence. The 23-year-old has registered four goals in 34 matches for the Catalan outfit this season on all fronts.
The Uruguayan talent has given a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field as he is averaging 1.2 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 89.5% of his attempted passes in La Liga (stats via whoscored).
Araujo On The Brink Of Penning A New Deal: Good Move For Both Parties?
Araujo is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back on the defensive end of the pitch. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is a good passer of the ball when playing his way out from the back.
At 23, the Rivera-born talent has his best years ahead of him. Thus, it makes sense for Barcelona to keep hold of the talented defender for the long run. He is primarily a centre-back and can even fill in as a full-back if needed. His defensive prowess and versatility have made him one of the most important members of Barca‘s squad.
The nine-time Uruguay international is a player on the rise and could nail down a place in Xavi‘s first XI for the next decade. Plus, he is only growing as a footballer at the Nou Camp.
With all things considered, Araujo committing his long-term future will be a good move for both the player and the Catalan club as they look to collectively win some trophies together in the coming seasons.
