In a recent report, Gazzetta Dello Sport mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur could face stiff competition for AS Monaco striker Hugo Ekitike. It has been mentioned that Spurs will have to rival Newcastle United, West Ham United and Arsenal in pursuit of the French forward.
Ekitike’s Decent Numbers In French Football This Season
The 19-year-old has enjoyed an impressive rise in France and has caught the eye by putting in a series of productive displays in the final third. Ekitike has banged in ten goals and grabbed four assists in 23 matches for the French outfit this season across all fronts.
The Reims-born talent has led the line well for his current club as he is averaging 1.3 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. However, he needs to take care of the ball a bit better in the opposition half, based on his pass completion rate of 69.8% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Is Ekitike The Right Choice For Tottenham Hotspur?
Ekitike excels at creating a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. He can use his strong 1.90m frame to dominate the opposition in the air and can create some meaningful openings for others around him. However, the two-time France Under-20 international needs to improve his link-up play if he wants to become a world-class target man someday. He is primarily a centre-forward but can even fill in as a winger on the left flank if needed.
A striker of Ekitike’s potential will be a decent coup for Spurs as he will be a perfect, long-term successor to Harry Kane at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
At 19, the French whizkid has got a very promising future ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for Antonio Conte to consider during this summer transfer period.
Ekitike will add more goals and physicality to Tottenham’s attack. Plus, he could even serve as a decent option for Conte to call upon off the bench at the North London club in the coming seasons.
