Barcelona Are Keeping A Keen Eye On This Spanish Midfielder: Good Option For Xavi?

In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo stated that Barcelona are keeping a keen eye on Real Sociedad B midfielder Beñat Turrientes. It has been mentioned that the Catalan giants are showing interest in recruiting the Spanish youngster in the summer.

Turrientes’ Impressive Rise In Spanish Football

The 20-year-old has risen through the youth ranks of Real Sociedad and has done well to gain some first-team experience under his belt at such a tender age. The Beasain-born talent has already made 13 senior appearances for the Spanish outfit this season, scoring one goal in the process across various competitions.

The Spanish midfield ace has often found himself on Sociedad’s bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.9 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from the back after completing 88.9% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).

Is Turrientes A Good Option For Barcelona Boss Xavi?

Turrientes can generate a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in at goal. He has got a good work rate and is an accurate passer from midfield.

The Spanish starlet is a decent dribbler with the ball as well but needs to find a way to be more productive in the opposition half. He is a box-to-box midfielder who can even act as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder if required.

An up-and-coming midfielder of Turrientes’ potential will be a great addition to Barca‘s squad. Plus, he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Xavi looks for in his midfielders. At 20, the future is quite promising for the Spaniard as long as he can continue improving over the next few years.

However, the Catalan side would have to be patient with his progress if they want to get the most of the youngster’s services in the coming seasons. With all things considered, Turrientes will be a decent option for the Spanish outfit to consider during the summer transfer period as he will add a lot of long-term value to Xavi’s squad at the Nou Camp.
