According to Aksam, Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Kerem Akturkoglu. The Galatasaray wide player is expected to leave the club after the end of the season, with multiple clubs keen on his services. The report suggests Galatasaray are prepared to offload Akturkoglu but expect in excess of €20 million for the services of their star player.
Who Is Kerem Akturkoglu?
A former member of the Golcukspor youth academy, Akturkoglu has been around the Turkish youth scene for quite a while before he found his big break in Galatasaray, joining the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2020.
It proved to be a masterstroke from the Turkish giants, as the player enjoyed his breakthrough in his maiden season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 20 league matches.
A left-winger by trade, Akturkoglu has since racked up 73 competitive appearances for Galatasaray, scoring 17 goals and providing 13 assists. He has impressed the onlookers with his versatility in the attack as is capable of operating on both flanks. It is complemented well by the 23-year-old’s ability to create chances in the final third.
Moreover, the Galatasaray winger has a knack for finding himself at the right place at the right time. It is evidenced in his rather impressive scoring tally in the Turkish Super Lig so far, with the forward notably scoring eight goals this term.
A Perfect Option For Tottenham?
Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements in the summer transfer window. The club have appeared far too reliant on the services of Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min in recent years, with alternatives such as Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn or Bryan Gil failing to make their presence felt.
The January addition of Dejan Kulusevski has helped improve the depth in the Spurs frontline. But there remains a serious shortage of quality alternatives for Son or Kane in the attacking department. And that is where someone like Kerem Akturkoglu could prove to be a shrewd option for the Lilywhites.
As mentioned earlier, the 23-year-old is a versatile operator who can appear on both flanks or even act as a number nine, if required. He could compete with the likes of Kulusevski and Son for a place in the starting eleven next season, whilst adding more bite to the Tottenham strikeforce.
Indeed, the Turk has proven goalscoring credentials as a winger and at the age of just 23, he has what it takes to further hone himself as a footballer. And for a fee of just €20 million, he could prove to be a bargain for Spurs.
