In a recent report, CCMA revealed that Chelsea are set to rival Liverpool for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo. It is believed that the Blues are showing interest in recruiting the Uruguayan centre-back.
Araujo’s Decent Run Of Form In Spanish Football
Araujo has enjoyed a solid campaign at the Nou Camp after putting in a series of dominant displays at the centre of the Barca backline. The Rivera-born talent has netted four goals in 33 appearances for the Catalan outfit this season on all fronts. Araujo has taken great strides towards improving himself, so the Blues will do well to snap him up during the summer transfer window.
The former Boston River player has been a rock at the back as he is averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 2.0 clearances per game in La Liga. He has even been excellent with his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 89.4% in league football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Araujo Add To Chelsea Boss Thomas Tuchel’s Side?
Araujo is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to make a few crucial interceptions inside his half. He is proficient at reading the danger quickly which helps him get into the right positions to clear the danger when needed.
The seven-time Uruguay international excels at playing his way out from the back and can use his strong 1.88m frame to win some important aerial duels for his team. He is primarily a central defender but can also fill in as a right-back if required.
A complete defender of Araujo’s skillset will be a great addition to Thomas Tuchel‘s squad if the Blues can devise a way to get him on board this summer.
We can expect the Barca centre-half to add more bite and steel to Chelsea‘s backline and could go on to form a solid defensive partnership with Thiago Silva at Stamford Bridge next season. At 23, Araujo’s prime years are ahead of him, so Tuchel should think about engineering a move to bring him to the West London club as he will have a great resale value in the future.
